As a restricted
Buddhist, he has been a vegetarian (occasionally egg and milk) since around
1981 and is having a tendency to be a vegan.

Dr Maitree Suttajit is now a Professor in Biochemistry
at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty
of Medical Science, University of Phayao
. He has been involved in
teaching biochemistry, nutrition, food and environmental toxicology and research methodogy for biomedical science
undergraduates and graduates for the past 40 years.
Research and publicaions:
Dr. Maitree Suttajit is
actively involved in research and his main research interest are
functional foods, natural products
such as mycotoxins mainly
aflatoxins, carcinogens, tumor promoters, free radicals and oxidative stress in
diseases and antioxidants and anti-inflammation activities of phytochemicals. He has successfully had completed
numerous projects that involved the home-made and field kits for aflatoxin
analysis for the prevention of aflatoxins contaminations in food and
feedstuffs, cancer preventon and . He is currently studied the the presence and
applications of omega fatty acids and
antioxidants highly found in
local perilla (Nga-mon) seeds. . Collectively, these projects have
resulted in more than 100 original publications and conference papers, books
authorization and a patent.
He has also supervised
numerous Ph.D., M.Sc. students and staffs . In the past there were about 50 graduates under his
supervision.
Honors
and awards
He has reviewed about 100
manuscripts for a number of reputable Thai and
international journals.He is the Founder President and Board Member of
the Society for Free Radical Research of Thailand (SFRR-Thai), and also of the Thai Vegetarian Association
(TVA) .He been awarded by TVA for
his contributions to vegetarianism
promotion in the country and Asia.
In 2009, Dr. Suttajit was given a Cerebos
award for a research fund to do investigate the health benefits of red
pigmented rice.. Moreover, he has received several research grant Lastly, he
was selected to be an
outstanding researcher in medical
nutrition from Asia-Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society in
2014
